Simple Paper Bag Popcorn
While we were camping this weekend, we got on the subject of popcorn while my girlfriend was popping some over the fire.
Maybe I’m a little behind but did you know you can make popcorn using kernels and a brown paper bag? It was news to me so the boys and I tried it and It worked!
I seemed to have lost all the tutorial pictures for this post, I’ll add them again shortly.
Place a half cup of kernels into a brown paper bag add a tsp of olive oil or a spray of butter or simply leave it plain.
Fluff out the bag and fold it over twice and throw it in the microwave for about 2 minutes or until you hear pauses of about 2 seconds between pops.
Don’t worry, I don’t usually let the kids hang out in front of the microwave
Add a little salt if you would like and enjoy!
~Hope you have a fabulous day~
Haha! I love that you pointed out that the microwave viewing isn’t a normal occurrence. Too funny. I know there’s that one person out there who’d send some hate mail over it. 🙂
I’ve heard the paper bag trick, but haven’t tried it yet. I may or may not be addicted to kettle corn and supposedly adding sugar and salt to the bag produces a good one. It’s still on my to-try list.
Ha 🙂 I almost didn’t show this picture but it was so cute to see Grayson already eating his and the other two so excited for theirs. It was only 2 minutes, I let it slide this time 🙂
Yep, I knew that. I used to keep kernels on hand when my girls were younger, just in case I ran out of microwave popcorn and couldn’t get to the store. Haven’t done it in a while though.
Oh my!!…I did not know that…what a great thing as there is so much controversy over the microwave popcorn that you buy in the stores….thanks for sharing this…!!!
Popcorn popped in a brown bag in the microwave or in a skillet on the stove is the ONLY way to eat popcorn. If you pop it in a brown bag, you can spray on a little olive oil and water mixture (again, make your own in a spray bottle) then add whatever kind of seasoning you like. Taco seasoning is a favorite with my boys, salt and pepper is another, and for those with a sweet tooth – try cinnamon and brown sugar. Yummy!
Please, please, don’t anyone buy microwavable popcorn anymore – it is truly toxic. Read the information about it. Keep your family safe. This is so much more cost effective and simple and a good lesson to teach our kids. I grew up popping it only on the stove in a skillet. That’s the best!
Thanks for sharing your tip Kristin!
I didn’t know this but I am going to do it now that I do! Thanks for sharing!
My son sits in front of the microwave everyday watching his oatmeal cook. Should I not be doing that??? LOL
I have heard this trick but haven’t tried it, but now I’ll have to. Cute pic of your boys, Kristin!
You have three handsome boys there! Cute that they pulled up a stool to watch. I love it! I may need to try this popcorn for my afternoon snack! Great tip Kristin.
How awesome is this? I have never seen anything like it. Very creative and a must try. My kids would love this so much. Thank you.
I did not know this either! Thanks, we love popcorn 🙂
Thanks so much for this tip! It is healthier and much cheaper than microwave popcorn! I wanted to say that if you add sugar and salt with oil it does indeed turn out like kettle corn! My kids are in heaven!
