Materials Needed:

Clear plastic ornaments  (the ones that come apart in the middle)
Succulent cuttings (You can find them at your local garden center or Home Depot)
Faux holly berries
Moss (sphagnum moss and sheet moss work well)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Scissors
Ribbon or twine (for hanging)
Floral Foam (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the Clear Ornament
Open up the ornament up,and give it a good wipe down if it is dusty.

Prepare the Succulent Cuttings
Cut your live succulents and allow them to callous over 4 to 5 days. To callous, take the cutting and place it in a warm dry place out of direct sunlight

Add Moss
For your next step, place a layer of moss at the bottom of the ornament. This will serve as a base for the succulents and give it a natural, earthy look. Simply secure the moss with hot glue.

Arrange the Succulent Cuttings

Arrange the succulent cuttings inside the ornament.  Depending upon the size of your succulents, you will need 7-10 clippings.

Secure the Succulents
Once everything is in place, and you are happy with how it looks, apply hot glue to the succulent stem  to secure the succulents.

Add Decorative Touches (Optional)
To give the ornament a true holiday feel, add a few holiday berries, adhering to the hot glue.

Attach the Ribbon or Twine
Once everything is secured and you’re happy with the arrangement, thread a ribbon or twine through the small hole on the top of the ornament to create a hanger. Tie it into a bow or leave it as a simple loop.

Hang and Enjoy
Your succulent Christmas ornament is now ready to hang on your tree or give as a gift! It’s the perfect size to hang on your tree.

Caring for your succulent plants

If using real succulents, keep the ornament in a cool spot away from direct sunlight to prolong its lifespan.

Spray the arrangement with water weekly. It only needs a small amount of water,  Don’t give them excess water, especially since there is no drainage hole. Succulents do best in filtered all-day sun just not hot direct sunlight.

Tips

Avoid keeping the ornament in places with excessive heat or sunlight.

If you want your ornament to last well past the holiday, cut small pieces of floral foam to fit inside the ornament. This will help hold the succulents in place and keep them alive longer.

Other fun embelishments to try; are tiny pinecones, miniature Christmas tree or other miniature elements.  Add artificial snow before adding the moss to show through on the back of the ornament.

When the holidays are over take the succulents out of the ornament and plant them outside, watch them grow and reproduce throughout the year!

If a live plants seem too hard to keep alive, you can always use faux succulents. Air plants are another option.

If you are finding the succulents are not staying in place you can always secure them with floral pins.

These unique rustic Christmas ornaments will make your holiday decor stand out with its natural beauty and creative flair!

This makes for a fun family craft night, a girls’ night in, and the best gifts to give to your beloved friends.  I hope you have fun creating your succulent ornament and Happy Holidays!
