Personalized Wood Sled

This Personalized Wood Sled was so fun to make and has endless possibilities! It would look beautiful on a front porch, as a door decoration, and would be a perfect addition to any vignette. It would look so pretty on your fireplace hearth or under the Christmas tree. It has that rustic look with a little farmhouse but truly would fit in with any home decor.

It’s thrift store decor day and I found this wooden sled at my favorite thrift store where all proceeds support a local hospice. Hospice has been a true blessing in our family, absolute angels so I always support them whenever I’m out thrifting and always drop off any goods I need to donate.

If you are local, look up Hospice of the North Coast Resale Shop in Encinitas, make a day of it and eat at one of my favorite restaurants, Naked Cafe, yes Naked! My best friend from kindergarten and I meet here quite often! Environmentally conscious, globally influenced, flavorful healthy whole foods. Then you can walk across to Home Goods and finish up your shopping day!

I found this sled in the beginning of October, they already had a little section in the store carved out for the holidays, lucky me. I had no idea what I was going to do with it but it was too cute to pass up for $6 and it was marked down 50%, score for $3!

I went to Hobby Lobby last week when all of the Christmas decor was 65% off and found a few embellishments I thought would look cute on the sled.

Supplies

These are just suggestions, you really can personalize this to your own liking.

DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Acrylic Paint in Champagne Gold
DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Acrylic Paint in Glorious Gold
Deco Art Metallic in Rose Gold Craft Paint
Hot Glue and Glue Gun
Mini Gold Bells
Twine or Ribbon
Various Embellishments
Craft Brush

Directions

First I sanded down the whole sled to get rid of some of the darker areas and to smooth everything out and gave it a good wipe down with a tack cloth. This took about 15 minutes.

Next, I started adding the embellishments and securing them with hot glue.
I knew the scrabble letters would be perfect on the raised sections of the sled. I then painted a few snowflakes and hot glued them in various places on the sled. I had some small gold bells and attached them to some colorful red and white ribbon but I just wasn’t feeling it so I added them to plain rustic twine. Which one do you like better? I just kept adding until it felt finished. There really are so many options and you can’t go wrong.

This sled is festive enough for Christmas and New Year, but can still be up in January or February because it screams winter.

Where to Place Your Sled

The sled has that vintage touch and would look beautiful on a front porch, as a door decoration, it would look really pretty in the center of a large wreath. You could place it under the Christmas tree mixed in with all of the presents or place it on your stone hearth.  If you found a smaller version, it would make an adorable sled ornament.

No Bells
