Night Stand Makeover Using Americana Chalky Paint

My Sister In Law found 2 of these beauties at the thrift store and asked that I give both nightstands a makeover using the Americana Chalky paint that I used last month on the accent table.  I fell in love with the color Legacy, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these.

I love working with DecoArt’s decor Chalky finish paint because it minimizes my prep time since I don’t have to  worry about sanding and priming! Plus a little goes a long way!

Supplies

Americana Chalky Finish Paint, Legacy

Americana Decor Creme Wax,Deep Brown

Foam Roller

Small Craft Brush

Sanding block

Rag

Directions

Before painting, make sure to clean the table really well using a damp cloth.

I painted the hard to reach places using a small craft brush and a foam roller for the rest of the piece. I allowed it to dry and gave it a second coat.

After everything was dry, I smoothed everything out using a sanding sponge.

I distressed it also using using the sanding sponge in places it would naturally wear over time.  To do this simply apply a little more pressure while sanding until part of the paint wears off.

The last step was to protect the paint job.  I applied the Americana Decor Creme Wax in dark brown with a rag and then buffed the table using a clean rag.  This definitely darkened the piece and I loved the outcome.

This side by side gives you a pretty good ideas how different the piece can look with and without the dark wax.

If you would like the piece to remain light you can apply a clear wax over the paint instead of the dark wax.

I was going to change the handles but I liked the gold against the blue so I let them be.

Voila, I really hope she likes them, I almost wanted to keep these two pieces for myself.

Hope you will stop by and see all of the amazing thrift store makeovers, I’m always so impressed with what these talented ladies come up with every month!
