Mojito-Style Limeade

This limeade recipe was inspired by the popular Latin mojito cocktail. But this version is alcohol-free and also low sugar, giving you a healthier alternative.  When I think of refreshing drinks, citrus flavors pop into my mind. There’s just something about citrus that makes your taste buds and body feel energized and refreshed.   This recipe is exactly that, refreshing and perfect for the whole family!

Mojito-Style Limeade

Makes: 1 large pitcher or about 7.5 cups

This limeade recipe was inspired by the popular Latin mojito cocktail. But this version is alcohol-free and also low sugar, giving you a healthier alternative. It’s super refreshing and perfect for the whole family!

Ingredients

3/4 cups of freshly squeezed key lime juice (it was 11 limes for me)

1/2 cup light brown sugar (or add more for sweeter limeade)

1 cup loosely packed (measured) fresh mint leaves

lots of ice cubes

7 cups of ice-cold water, adjust to taste or pitcher size

Instructions

1. Slice the limes in half and juice them, then set juice aside. Place the mint leaves in a large pitcher and use a wooden spoon to smash and break up the leaves (this is to release their flavor). Next add the sugar and mix well before pouring in the lime juice and stirring until well combined and so that the sugar dissolves. Once sugar has dissolved add the ice cubes and stir as best as possible. Lastly pour in ice-cold water to fill the pitcher and stir until well combined.

2. Serve in cups with plenty of additional ice cubes. For a fun twist you can coat the glass rim with a brown sugar and serve with slices of limes, if desired. It’s best to serve this limeade right away as the mint leaves begin to brown a bit. Also, though allowing the limeade to sit longer helps develop the flavors it will turn a darker color. Enjoy!
