Whiten your teeth for a dollar
About a year ago I stopped using the $30 kits and started using a $1.00 bottle of peroxide and it worked just as good if not better. (hence why I don’t have a before and after picture as I have been whitening my teeth forever)
So here are the steps I follow
Rinse with 3% hydrogen peroxide for 30-60 seconds. (anything higher must be diluted with 50% water) When the hydrogen peroxide comes in contact with your mouth, a chemical reaction will take place and it will begin to foam, don’t worry it’s normal.
Spit out the rinse, do not swallow!
I have heard if you have never used any type of whitening agent on your teeth the Hydrogen peroxide treatment will take awhile, at least 6 months. However if you have pretty white teeth to begin with or have used the whitening agents in the past this is a fabulous way to keep up the look for the fraction of the cost.
So what do think, are you going to try it? Have you been doing this already? I wan’t to hear your thoughts!
I had heard this as well. That and making a paste with baking soda and the peroxide.
I’m curious about tooth sensitivity. What has been your experience?
The kits actually made my teeth sensitive, the peroxide does not. I would say if your teeth get sensitive use it every other day 🙂
Oh my gosh!! I am SO trying this Kristin! Do you do it every day??
Vanessa
I do it a few times a week. If your teeth are yellow I would start with a kit then move over to the peroxide after you get them to the color you want. 🙂
It does work does’t it!! I worked for a DDS for several years and she shared this with me. I couldn’t believe it. Great post Kristin! Enjoy your weekend.
Great tips, Kristin – thanks! How much does 3% equate to – roughly a capful perhaps? Arm & Hammer baking soda will achieve very good results as well, and much like the HP, will take a while before you see the difference. Definitely worth it and achievable. heather x
Yes, just use about a cap full, its doesn’t take much
I am so glad you are writing about this. I tried the peroxide last year but it didn’t seem to do anything so I gave up. Just this week I bought the Crest whitening strips. It did make a noticable difference but I am going to use another set next week. I didn’t realize that it would take up to six months so for the peroxide to work so after I get them white I will give the peroxide another try to keep them white.
Just fyi, be sure to rise your sink, the peroxide did cause the ORB finish on my drain cover in sink to become cloudy.
Thanks.
Thanks for the FYI on the sink 🙂
I’m definitely going to try this.
I’m trying this… especially since I’m down to my last WhiteStrip that appears to have done nothing!
I have been wanting to try this.. does it leave a funny taste in your mouth?
It does leave a little bit of a funny taste, I just rinse with Listerine after to get rid of the taste.

Thanks Debbie for the info. The peroxide I buy does have directions for using as a oral rinse, it should never be swallowed. One should only do this if they are comfortable with it. Same goes with the kits, they should never swallow the gel 🙂
Here is another one…

Hydrogen peroxide is not for internal use and if swallowed can be very dangerous.

I can’t tell you how much time these teeth have spent in Crest Whitestrips or trays over the years (I love my coffee and red wine!!) THANK YOU for this tip – I am going off to try it right now! I love when you write about beauty stuff. I will do anything you tell me to, my gorgeous friend 🙂
Jim and I did the super spendy Dentist visit version, and it was not even that dramatic. I want glow in the dark teeth. LOL! Pinning and trying :)))
I have extremely white teeth and it’s one of the biggest compliments I get and all I use is whitening tooth paste and rinse with listerine.

That is awesome! I will definitely give it a try 🙂
Great tips pretty lady as your teeth are WHITE!! I’m taking your advice and trying it!
Well, I never knew – thanks for the tip!!!!
