DIY miniature succulent terrarium
I love succulents because they are so easy to take care for. Whenever I visit my brother I take a succulent clipping, place it in the soil and it grows from there, Doesn’t get much easier then that. I thought it would be fun to make a beautiful mini succulent terrarium.
First I clipped some of the succulents from around our yard.
I added a layer of pebbles on the bottom of the pot then dirt, stuck the succulent roots into the soil and covered with more soil and a layer of pebbles.
I picked up this adorable mini atrium months ago and thought it would be perfect spot for the succulents. I placed the pots into metal pails and added some sheet moss to the bottom of the atrium.
Now I can enjoy them inside or outside of the home.
~A few tips~
Succulents need sun
Water about every two weeks and allow the water to drain freely to the bottom
Fertilize only in the summer using about half of what you would normally use for a plant.
Have fun and good luck, thanks so much for stopping in today!
Don’t want to be a buzz-kill, but those pails might get too hot in the terrarium in the sun – they would here in Texas. Just keep an eye on them.
Also, you mentioned that you put pebbles in the bottom of the pails. The other day, I saw some thingies in Walmart that were meant to go in the bottom of plant pots to provide drainage and keep the dirt from escaping. They were just those plastic scrubbie things that you get at the dollar store 10/$1 (like on the back of some sponges). The ones at Walmart were about 1/2″ thick, so you’d have to use two or three of the ones from the dollar store. I’m gonna try it. I’ll let you know how well it works!
Yes, metal might be to hot for Teaxs, lucky I don’t have to worry too much about that here. Good to know about the drainage idea, thank you 🙂
*pebbles in the bottoms of the POTS, not the pails!
What a great idea!
This is so cute! I have wanted to do one for inside but have read that succulents are highly poisonous for cats & I know our kitty would be too nosy. I never thought about doing one for the patio…thanks for the idea!
I haven’t give succulents a try, my not so green thumb needs easy plants! They look great inside that atrium.
Super simple…my kind of greenery.
Wonderfully times post!
Me and the Mr and trying to plan out our garden right now.
