First project of 2012

New Year’s is the perfect time to reflect on the changes we want  to make.
Although I feel pretty darn blessed and fortunate, there is always room for improvements.
I like to make some short-term goals so I can have  instant satisfaction and  long term goals that I need to work on every day of my life.
Since my blog is about projects and not my love for fried food and how I need to improve my relationship with God, I’ll share with you what our first project of 2012 will be.
Sounds a little more fun to me.

Our upstairs loft which can be seen from the downstairs has gone through many transformations over the years.  Before kids it housed a pool table, bistro  and a fridge, those were the days. Then the kids came and it turned into an office. It is somewhat comical if you think about it.  It is near impossible to work in a office that is open to the whole house, lets face it we have three kids and kids are loud!
 Seriously, what were we thinking.
So since the kids have somehow taken over the whole house the loft,
our goal is to turn it into an area for them to play games,  work on homework, watch TV and have sleepovers.  Hopefully I can still have a little area to sit and pay bills, file documents and work on the every day stuff.

Here is my vision, the hubs likes it too.

Big comfy chair for the desk.

Painting the existing desk black or white.

Purchase a sleeper sofa for the kids

Paint all the existing cabinets and bookshelves white.

Find some fun fabric and sew drapes.

We have almost all the elements to make this happen it’s just going to take a lot of work to transform the pieces, I am up for the challenge and excited!
How about you, what will your first project of the new year be?

XOXO

We have a LIST and a half for 2012…but today we took down an upper kitchen cabinet so we could add some open shelving. I started a pinterest board for my month-to-month projects-

  10. Hello,

Looking forward to the new renovations. How fun! Our kids took over the house and we built them a custom basement so that they could hang out with friends and keep the toys downstairs. So far so good. They got giant bean bags as one of their gifts from Santa. They are having a good time in their new space. Thank you for all of your inspirations this past year. I enjoy reading your posts. Have a wonderful 2012! Happy Decorating!

  13. Ooooh, I love your inspiration pictures! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

At our house, first and foremost is finishing the shared room for our two kids to make room for BABY!!! Then it's my usual purge, purge purge, reorganize, reorganize, reorganize that I love to do at the first of the year. Feels so good to have a clean slate.

Best wishes for all your 2012 goals – redecorating as well as all the other not so fun stuff.

  14. I'd love to work on my office/craft room, but it'll have to wait until Dave Ramsey has left the building, if you know what I mean!

Other than that – lots of painting!

  15. Kristin,
Sounds like a great plan and I love those inspiration photos! I haven't started my "official" list of projects yet but I have a few in mind…some fantasy projects which will probably never get done and some realistic ones! I look forward to seeing how yours turns out! Best wishes for the new year!

  16. I love this post – sounds like a little slice of my life! I've had that first photo in my inspiration file for a while, and I love all the bookcase pictures. I have some cheap bookcases in the kids' playroom that could be dressed up with some beaded board wallpaper. But I think my first project of the new year is going to be our hallway – I'm planning to paint big horizontal stripes, and I've been working on some subway art. Can't wait to see what you do!

  18. Looking forward to watching the transformation! Personally, we are going to repaint the exterior of our Spanish bungalow moss green, repaint kitchen cupboards…and inspired by the interiors at The Canary hotel in Santa Barbara this weekend, I now also want crown moulding in my office to give it a more finished, elegant appearance.

  19. Kristin- I am so excited for you! Love your mood board AND your inspiration pictures. It is going to be beautiful when you are all done…what a fun thing to do! xo Diana
