DIY Eucalyptus Grapevine Wreath for Fall

As the leaves change and the air turns crisp, it’s the perfect time to bring a touch of fall into your home with a beautiful wreath. Combining the elegance of eucalyptus leaves with the rustic charm of small pumpkins and a velvet ribbon, you will have a gorgeous wreath for your front door in no time.  

We all know how much new wreaths cost so I decided to make my own. I found these faux pumpkins at a thrift store last week for $3.50, I thought that was a bargain as some of these stems can cost $20 on up.  Once I saw them, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them, make a wreath! It’s our monthly thrift store post, I can’t wait to see what everyone came up with.

Materials Needed

Grapevine Wreath Form
Faux Eucalyptus Garland Or Eucalyptus Stems (Hobby Lobby also sells these)
Velvet Ribbon
Small faux pumpkins and apples(various colors and sizes)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Wire cutters
Floral wire (optional)
Scissors

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare The Wreath

Start by laying out your grapevine wreath. Check for any loose twigs and trim them off if necessary. Mine had been collecting dust for a while so I washed it with soap and water and let it dry in the sun.

2. Arrange the Eucalyptus

I had a eucalptus faux vine I purchased a few years back.  I originally wrapped the vine around the wreath but there was just too much of the brown eucalyptus branches showing so I took wire cutters and cut each of the clusters of eucalyptus stems off. Place the sprigs around the wreath, focusing on one section at a time.  Don’t forget the side of the wreath.

Play with the arrangement until you find a balance that feels right. I decided to go 3/4 of the way up the wreath and leave the top plain.  You could also add the eucalyptus on the entire wreath, it is entirely up to you. 

3. Secure the Eucalyptus

Once you’re satisfied with the layout, use the hot glue gun to attach the eucalyptus to the grapevine wreath. You could also use floral wire to secure the sprigs in place, wrapping it around the wreath to keep everything in position.

4. Add the Pumpkins and Apples

 Select your small pumpkins and decide where you want to place them on the wreath. You can cluster them together or space them out for a more balanced look. Once you’ve decided on placement, glue them down using your hot glue gun.

 

If you’re using heavier pumpkins, you might want to use floral wire for extra stability.  You may need wire cutters to cut them from the vine.

5. Add your Ribbon

When your faux eucalyptus wreath is complete, add a ribbon of your choice, I simply tied it in a bow and allowed it to flow down the bottom.

6. Final Touches

Once everything is securely glued and arranged, take a step back and admire your work. Make any necessary adjustments, trimming excess eucalyptus or repositioning pumpkins to achieve your desired look.

 

 

7. Hang It Up

 Whether you hang it on your front door, above a mantel, front porch, or on a buffet, your diy eucalyptus wreath is going to add so much charm to your home decor! 

Tips for Maintenance

• Keep the wreath out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
• If using fresh eucalyptus, mist it occasionally to keep it hydrated.
• Store your wreath in a cool, dry place when not in use to maintain its shape and color.
