Updated Painted Lanterns
Do, I have a fun tutorial for you to day, updated painted lanterns! My girlfriend found these lanterns at the thrift store and asked if I could give them a little TLC!
I’m back for our monthly thrift store decor, where we make over a thrift store find. Make sure to scroll to the end of the post to find so many amazing projects!
So here is the before, super cute assortment of lanterns, she did good!
Supplies
Deco Art Americana Chalky Finish Paint, Lace
Sanding block
Paper towels or rags

Directions
Before painting, I made sure to clean the lanterns really well using a damp cloth.
Using a combination of small craft brushes and make-up wedges I painted over the metal. I could have taped everything off but that would be super tedious so I tried to keep a steady hand.
The frames around the glass were a little tricky but I found that the paint came right off the glass with a wet paper towel and my finger nail wrapped around the towel. You could also use a razor blade after the paint dries.
Next I sanded down some of the parts to give it a distressed look and followed up with a coat of dark minwax stain to age it. Lastly, I sealed it to protect it from the outdoor elements applying it with a soft rag.
Imagine these in a outdoor summer space dining alfresco, super romantic. Hmmm….wonder if she will notice if I keep a few.
They look super pretty at night!
Time to go visit these talented ladies and see what they found this month! Thanks so much for stoping in today and have a great rest of the week!

Uncommon Slice of Suburbia Painted Lanterns
What a pretty difference in all those lanterns, they look wonderful. I agree about the taping up part, easier to remove the occasional paint smudge after, than to tape. Especially for me who seems to even smudge when I DO tape things up!
I love those lanterns now. The display looks great. I’m off to find some lanterns to paint!
I love how easy it is to change up metal decor items! These updated painted lanterns are so pretty. I’m sure your friend loves them.

Love these!!!!! Your blog is fantastic, it was nice meeting you today!!
You too Jessica, thank you!
They look gorgeous! What a great thrift store find!
Thank you Maryann!
Nice to know other people smudge even when they tape. Think for me, am just plain messy and impatient.
Love how lanterns look now, all shiny and ready for use on mantel, table, shelf, wherever. Great job giving them new life. Maybe time I get a few out to redo them, put on back porch at night.
Have great summer week.
Yup, me too!
