Mason Jar Herb Garden
In honor of Mother’s day, I made these herb gardens in mason jars to give to the special ladies in my life! I love cooking with fresh herbs and growing herbs indoors is a no-fuss and easy solution when using starter herbs or seeds. They are also a cheap and convenient way to plant herbs indoors and it’s so nice to have fresh herbs ready for snipping to add to those delicious homecooked meals.

Supplies
Ball Mason Jars Blue
Organic Potting Soil
Starter Herbs or Seeds
Pebble Rocks
Optional
Light Twine/
Raffia
Bistro Chalk Marker, White
Mini Chalkboard Blackboards On Stick
Step 1
Because the jars do not have holes for drainage, add a layer of pebbles at the bottom of the jar. This will prevent roots from damage from excess water.
Step 2
Fill the mason jars almost to the top with soil.
Step 3
Add the seeds or starter herbs and top off with additional soil. If you are using seeds don’t plant them too deep so they can germinate. If you are using a starter herb, gently pull roots apart to encourage growth and pack mix firmly around the roots.
Step 4
Label
Place jars in a location that receives at least 6 hours of sunshine a day (I keep ours in the kitchen). Keep herbs watered, but do not overwater and do not let dry out.
Step 6
Clip the herbs (even if you aren’t going to cook with them). Herbs are what’s called, “cut and come again”, that means the more you snip them, the more they grow.
Add some cute tags and some chalkboard signs so you know what is growing in each jar. Easy to tell if they are starter plants but not so easy if they are seeds.
There you have it, easy peasy and a perfect gift to show that special person in your life how much you care.
