Antique Mirror Makeover Using Chalky Paint

Hi friends, thanks for stopping in today, I’m so excited to share with you my antique mirror makeover using chalk paint.  I found this through an online sale and it really stood out, I messaged the owner and she informed me she had others ahead of me, however the next morning when she had not heard back, it was all mine!   I drove just 10 miles away and fell in love at first site, for forty dollars I thought it was a bargain!

I asked about the history and she said she found it up north (San Francisco area) years ago at an antique store and spent a lot of money.  It had been sitting in her garage for years and she couldn’t let it go but it came time for her to say goodbye, for $40 I thought it was a steal.

Before

It was old, chipped and absolutely gorgeous, I had the perfect spot for it in our dinning room!  As much as I loved the mirror, the color was a little bit too yellow for my taste.  A quick fix using chalk paint made this transformation super easy!

Directions

I gave the whole surface a light sand and followed it up with the sanding block to smooth everything out.

Next I grabbed the vacuum to get all the fine residue up left over from sanding and gave it a good wipe down using a damp cloth.

I only used one coat of paint on the mirror using the Dry Brushing Paint Technique, It’s the perfect way to add a bit of color and texture to a piece without completely hiding its natural beauty.   I simply dipped my paintbrush into the paint and painted over all the wood surfaces, not completely covering the old color.

The last step was to protect the paint job, I applied the Americana Decor Creme Wax with a rag and then buffed it with a rag.

I like how the paint just gave it a fresher look!
