Painted Desk Makeover

Over the weekend my hubby and son gave this desk a little TLC by giving it a fresh coat of paint and it turned out fabulous!

Painted Desk Makeover. This was a curbside find and with a little sanding and a coat of paint we were able to completely transform this piece!

This was given to us by our friends who were going to put it out on the curb with a free sign.  So not exactly a thrift store find, actually a little better! This piece is solid and the perfect size for our son’s room!

Supplies:

Primer

Paint: Benjamin Moore Iron Mountain

Assorted Sandpaper

Foam Mini Roller

Angle Trim Brush

Sanding block

 Directions

Remove all  drawers and hardware

Clean the surface; vinegar and hot water works great

Sand everything using an electric sander with medium grit (80 or 100)

Prime using a foam roller and let dry

Lightly sand

Paint your desired color using a foam roller and a angle trim brush for hard to reach places.

Let it dry, buff out any drips using a sanding block and give it another coat.

He is so happy with how it turned out and I am so proud of him for helping his dad complete this project!

  2. They did a great job on the desk! It’s beautiful. Love the color. I’m in the process of painting a desk for my nephew. So fun breathing new life into old pieces! Hope you’re doing well Kristin. xo

    1. Hi Nadine, Yes I painted over it and it has held up well. However, if you are concerned about the wear and tear I would finish it off with a Minwax Poly to give it extra protection. However, if you are painting the piece white, I have seen pieces turn yellow over a few years. In that case I would use a wax. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
