~I know I know~
I have been promising the tutorial on the DIY drum light for so long.
Thanks for being patient and for the e-mails that give me a friendly reminder!
Here is what you need:
Wooden Embroidery Hoop (it comes with 2)
Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Fabric
Electrical or duct tapeScissors
Illustration board or bendable plexi glass
Separate the two pieces of the embroidery hoop and remove the two blocks that sit on the outside.
Begin stapling the illustration board onto your hoops
keep going
Then add your electrical or duct tape to make sure everything is secure
Measure and cut your fabric. It needs to be as tall as the shade and as long as the circumference of the hoops, plus a few extra inches to hot glue.
Begin hot gluing your fabric with the glue on the INSIDE of the drum on the top and bottom. Lots of pulling and stretching as you don’t want any lines or creases.
I then measured a piece of fabric for the bottom of the drum and hot glued it inside the drum so you couldn’t see the ugly inside.
I added this piece to cover where the two ends meet.
Tah Dah…gorgeous drum light.
Ummmm….Yeah our chandi still looks like this because we have had ZERO time to figure out how to hang it. SO my suggestion is to figure that out before you start this project!
I do believe Ikea has some sort of kit we could use, I just need to find the time to get down there.
Because I am super paranoid of fire we took all the light bulbs out on the top part of the chandi that would be close to the board. We kept the bulbs on the bottom.
Oh…dollar store has flameless tealights, I bought all of them yesterday that were left on the shelf!

I love the pattern and soft color of the fabric. Great job!
Great tutorial! Love the fabric you chose and look forward to seeing it up! Hope your bathroom is coming along well. I need to pick up some of the flameless tea lights. I bought some flameless pillars last year at Costco that actually looked quite real. I love them! Happy September 1st, Kristin!
I love the idea! I hate how expensive lamps and shades are- this is a great alternative!
The new shade is so pretty! I have to do this one day. Thanks for the tutorial!
I literally just spent what seems like forever searching for and oddly large drum shade to hide a fugly fixture in my house. I would ignore the light but it made my eyes bleed to look at it. If I buy another light for my husband to hang, he'll hang me.
You've saved the day.
You are so clever! It looks beautiful and easy enough to try. Thanks for sharing the idea!
Well, that is so fabulous! Well done…I'm totally impressed.
kristin this is fabulous!

Awesome – I have been keeping my out for how to do this but found nothing until now. Great!
I will be covering a lamp shade in fabric today! Thanks for the tute! I came over from Centsational Girl and am your newest follower!
Great project!! Check out YoungHouseLove's recent fabric-chandelier-over-a-metal-chandelier post, you might get hanging inspiration!
